Mark A. Oestreich, 51, of Centralia died at 5:50 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at St. Mary’s/Good Samaritan Hospital in Centralia.

He was born on Sept. 23, 1950, in Centralia, son of Wilbert E. and Emma (Hesemann) Oestreich.

Mr. Oestreich is survived by his mother; Emma Oestreich of Centralia; one sister, Ruth Kennedy and husband Ben of Centralia; one sister-in-law, Carol Oestreich of Sandoval; three nephews; and one niece.

Mr. Oestreich was preceded in death by his father and one brother, James L. Oestreich.

Mr. Oestreich was employed at Hollywood Brands Candy Co. for 24 years until the plant closed. Since then he has held several positions including bookkeeper for The Salvation Army. He lived in Centralia throughout his life. He graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a bachelor of science degree in accounting. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia, where he taught first- and second-grade Sunday school. He was also a member, secretary and tournament director of the Southern Illinois Chess League; a member of the American Bowling Association of Greater Carlyle; and he bowled in a league in Salem.

Services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Revs. Perry Schefelker and James Gullen officiating. Interment will followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Sunday school. Pacey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
